Kirkwood McCarthy bring light and freshness into extension of Victorian semi-detached house in London
The clients approached Kirkwood McCarthy to extend the existing Victorian semi-detached residence in London, thus create equally sized bedrooms for twin sons, a new master bedroom to the loft level, and a better flow and arrangement to the first floor living.
“Pages Lane is a residential extension project that celebrates the fabric of the existing Victorian semi-detached residence. A striking anthracite zinc ground floor and loft extension provide additional living area and forge a new space plan that transforms the existing layout typology. Pulled away from the original building to achieve a new enclosed courtyard, the ground floor extension pitches and leans from a Mountain Ash tree. This form, with soaring internal ceilings, creates a decidedly different and unique type of living space that opens generously to the courtyard and rear garden; and contrasts against against the insular style living room to the original house,” said Fiona Kirkwood and Sophie McCarthy, founders of studio
